NCSO Patrol

Two full-time Patrol Deputies, the Under-sheriff and Sheriff make up our patrol division.  They are charged with the patrol and law enforcement of 2,628 square miles of Niobrara County, Wyoming.

Through our county runs 60 miles of US Route 85, also known as the CanAm Highway, many people travel this route between Denver, Colorado and Rapid City, South Dakota.  Our deputies are out there working along side the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

Sheriff -  Badge Number, 14-1Rick Zerbe.

Started in Law enforcement in the 1980's.   He was employed by the Lusk Police Department as a Police Officer until the late 1980's when he then came to the Niobrara County Sheriff's Office to work as a deputy sheriff and then as an under-sheriff to prior Sheriff's.   In 2002 he was appointed County Sheriff and then later elected as County Sheriff by public vote in Niobrara County, Wyoming.

He oversees the Niobrara County Sheirff's Office, operations and budget of the communications center, jail detention center, and the sheriff patrol division.  He is a Wyoming P.O.S.T. certified peace officer.  He can respond to any call for service with full authority of a sworn law enforcement officer.

Under-sheriff - Badge Number,14-2

Cary Gill,

Start his career in law enforcement in early 1980's in South Dakota.  In the 1990's he came to Lusk, Wyoming and worked as the Lusk Cheif of Police from 1995 to 2007.   In 2008 he came to the Niobrara County Sheriff's Office. 

 

Deputy-sheriff - Badge number:  14-3

Kelly Dean,

Started working with the Niobrara County Sheriff's Office in 1994 as a 9-1-1 dispatcher.   He has worked for the Wyoming Department of Correction's.   He moved to Wheatland, Wyoming in 2001 and worked for the Platte County Sheriff's Office as a dispatcher.  By 2002, he returned to Niobrara County and worked as a Detention Deputy Sheriff with the rank of jail sergeant.   In 2004, he worked for the Lusk Police Department as a full and partime police officer.   In 2009, he returned to the Niobrara County Sheriff's Office as a fulltime Patrol Deputy Sheriff.

Beyond the job duties of Deputy Sheriff, he is also our senior operator for the EC/IR intoxometer.  As well as the IT person for our department, web-master, and sex offender registry person.

Deputy-sheriff - 14-4

Wendi Dutcher,

Started working with the Niobrara County Sheriff's Office in 1988 as a dispatcher and detention deputy sheriff.   She has worked for other Wyoming agencies, in Lusk, Cody and Douglas Wyoming.  In 2012 she returned to Niobrara County as a Patrol Deputy Sheriff.

She is our K9 officer and highway safety grant person.
